Pro-poor projects in South 85% completeManila Times (Mar. 24, 2014)

Livelihood assistance to farmers and people’s organizations in Mindanao has reached more than 85 percent of the government’s full-year target, and implementation of the remainder of the poverty alleviation program for the region remains on track, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

Lealyn Ramos, director of the Mindanao Rural Development Program under the DA, said on Monday the program has recorded 85.81 percent overall physical accomplishment of the different project components which promote inclusive growth in the region.

The MRDP is a long-term poverty alleviation program of the DA in Mindanao that aims to raise the income and productivity of small farmers and fishermen, as well as improve the local government units’ (LGUs) capacity to deliver basic agricultural services.

The MRDP in 225 towns in Mindanao has a total funding of $123.90 million, including $83.752 million of a loan portfolio from the World Bank (WB) and the equity share of the national government and partner LGUs.

With these accomplishments, Ramos said they are confident of getting approval from the WB of the continued implementation of the MRDP.
